TWO local businesswomen have launched a new business to help save water.

Jilly Player-Bishop, of Boston Spa, and Tamsin Johnson, of York, are developing more user-friendly water-saving devices after launching the first range of five under their new start-up business,  Every Drop Is Precious.

Mrs Player-Bishop has run a number of her own businesses and has held roles in the water industry as director of pipe manufacturer Polypipe and general manager of multi-billion turnover Japanese  sanitaryware business Toto, where she employed Mrs Johnson four years ago.

After taking a year out of work after getting married, Mrs Player-Bishop was approached by German manufacturer RC Mannesmann, an existing contact from her previous work in the industry, who asked  her to be its exclusive UK distributor of water-saving technologies.

The former colleagues joined forces again to set up their own business, developing Mannesmann’s technologies into user-friendly household solutions.

The products include aerators designed to fit any wash basin and kitchen taps, as well as shower heads to reduce water flow from 24 litres per minute to six litres per minute.

Products developed have included shower heads for people with sensitive skin, which affects 1.7 million people in the UK, and shower heads which only release water when squeezed, suitable for  washing pets or hair.

The business is developing new ideas from feedback from customers.

Mrs Johnson said: “We plan to roll out things quite quickly.

“With water metres going to be made compulsory over the next two years, it’s perfect timing to launch the business and get people thinking about easy ways to save water and money.”

The business also sells products for commercial clients, such as vandal-proof aerators which can’t be removed from public places and MRSA preventive aerators for the healthcare sector.

Every Drop Is Precious is an online retail business to make their products available nationwide, said Mrs Johnson, but they are also looking to supply local retailers, such as Yeadons in Boston  Spa.
